Farmers in Kallakurichi district have raised concerns over agricultural conditions during the Farmers’ Grievance Day meeting held on August 28, 2026. The meeting was chaired by District Collector J. E. Padmaja, with farmers from different parts of the district participating in the programme. During the meeting, farmers reportedly requested that Kallakurichi be declared a drought-affected district and raised concerns about inadequate water availability for agriculture. Water availability is an important issue for farming communities, as farmers depend on rainfall and irrigation facilities for cultivation. Poor water availability can affect crop production, agricultural income and the livelihoods of farming families. The farmers presented their concerns directly before district officials, using the grievance meeting as a platform to communicate their difficulties and seek appropriate action. Such meetings allow officials to understand agricultural problems at the ground level and examine the issues raised by farming communities. Agriculture remains an important part of the rural economy of Kallakurichi district, and farmers also depend on government schemes and agricultural support programmes. The district administration can examine eligible requests and forward them to the concerned departments for further consideration. The demand for drought-related recognition and assistance has attracted attention among farming communities, particularly because of concerns over water availability. Farmers are expecting appropriate action from the government to address their agricultural difficulties. The issue has therefore become an important recent agricultural development in Kallakurichi district, while further decisions regarding drought-related assistance will depend on official assessment and government action.
